This month I went to the Grand Canyon with my mother for a surprise excursion from Las Vegas. I was overwhelmed with the beauty of God’s creation. As I was reading the Bible last night, the Lord brought the magnificent splendor of His majesty to mind once again. And He made my heart glad.
Then today, after being at the booth at Venice, I came home with a heart still filled with this peculiar, lasting joy. It was like I couldn’t stop smiling, like I didn’t want the day to end! Imagine that, after a day in that filthy Venice Beach with the smell of pot and incense coloring the boardwalk and the air blue with profanity. Yet, it had another strange affect on me, feeling the Holy Spirit with me and sensing His pleasure over me, gregarious with the lost, telling strangers the Good News of such a Savior, losing myself–my fears, brokenness, and limitations– in His work for all of eternity once again.
"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)
"The heavens are telling the glory of God…the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart…the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether; they are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold…sweeter than the honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward…Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, oh Lord, my rock and my Redeemer."(Psalm 19)
"I will bless the Lord who has counseled me. Indeed my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the Lord continually before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices. My flesh also will dwell securely." (Psalm 16:7-9)
"He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and sets me upon my high places." (Psalm 18:33)
"And Your gentleness makes me great. You enlarge my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped." (Psalm 18:35-36)
Looking forward to another night with God,
Dwayna
