In the article Why So Many Americans are Embracing Witchcraft the author explains particularly in the section "Feminism and Wicca: Rebellion Against Father" that women who practice witchcraft–like the evangelical feminists–are rebelling against the patriarchal language of the Bible with spiritual disdain for authority. Therefore, they worship a goddess, the "Female" they so love to defend while spiritually anathematizing the "male".
Christians for Biblical Equality teaches to call God "mother", too. The only difference is they are calling themselves "Christians." Of course, they readily admit that men have gifts, too…just as long as the Female authority is over the men all is well. The feminists call this dynamic "equality".
