Why Christians Worship on Sunday

The early church met for corporate worship on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, the same day Christ rose from the dead (Matthew 28:1). Acts 20:7 says, “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight.” Also, 1 Corinthians 16:2 says, “On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.” These verses provide clear evidence that the early church did in fact assemble together on Sunday, not Saturday.

What’s Happening to InterVarsity?

For the better part of 30 years I have been a "company man." My life has been devoted to student ministry through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship as a campus staff worker. All four of my books are published by IVP. The eleven Urbana missions conferences I attended shaped my life as a student and as a staff worker. When IV asked my wife and I to direct a short term mission program to Africa we counted it a privilege to pack up our babies and live our summers in glad service among missionaries and students. I now serve in a sister movement of IV in a Muslim nation. I love IV, and I long for its success. I have no desire to hurt anyone in InterVarsity. But I have deep concerns that IV is consistently and increasingly quickly moving away from the principles and practices which made InterVarsity an influential evangelical force on college campuses.

No Christian Vampires

[Angel explains]: The following is from my young friend, to whom I have been ministering here in Florida.

Take heed……

Oh the truth of this! I can not descibe the vulgarity of these movies. To glorify the works of satan, place it in a pretty package, and infiltrate the churches must be none other than an assignment from the pit of hell!

When I was young, between 6 to 10, I watched a movie that had been forbidden to watch in my house, Interview with a Vampire. I was hooked. I would find myself longing for Lestat or Louis. They were my kights of the night. I was in love. I moved from wanting them, to wanting to be them. After much debate, I was allowed to watch the movie over and over again, and even was bought a copy so that I could watch it at my liesure. I began to read the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, and I thought that I had discovered the only true way of living. I began to transfer energy and to psychically attack people, draining them of their energy for my pleasure. I began astral projection, out of body experiences, and to have blood lusts. There was no stopping me.

Very Real Demons and Vampire Chronicles

Let me state for the record this vampire craze is VERY EVIL, and no Christian should have ANY part of it. Having come out of the occult I can tell you, AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

I got into the Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice books and movies years ago. I thought they were, like Marcia stated "romantic". Truth is they were perverse all the way around. They were ungodly and EVIL!! This opened major doors in my life in many areas.

These "fiction" books and movies are straight out of Satan’s hellish, occult camp. They can open doors to divination, witchcraft/ magic, blood drinking and cannibalism, sexual perversity, fear, and the list goes on.

I have ministered to young people around this very issue, and they have DEEP REGRET for having ever gone there. Please take it from me– DON’T!

The Manhattan Declaration

Shortly before the Manhattan Declaration came out I was very disappointed by a discovery I made at the back end of the second edition of J. I. Packer’s Rediscovering Holiness. This new edition contains an afterword entitled “Holiness in the Dark: The Case of Mother Teresa.” I scanned it quickly then, but did not make time to give it a thorough reading until this morning. Very disappointed is an understatement.

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, Incense, or Aroma Therapy!

Flipping through the May 25, 2009 edition of Star Magazine was certainly enlightening. Page 4 entitled “Idol Worship” pictured Adam Lambert waving his All Seeing Eye tattoo at his spell-bound fans.
Onward to page 8 our attention is drawn to an article titled, “Is That You, Marilyn?”. They inform us “Now Linds (Lindsey Lohan) is channeling the blonde bombshell again.” Really?
We sail right ahead to a full page spread on page 14 and 15 where a woman is sitting in a yoga position, on a throne being served by two men. She is referred to as the goddess of touch. Oh, and in case you were wondering, this was an advertisement for hair care products.

Meditation–Buddhist and Christian: Is There Common Ground?

From CrossTalk with Ingrid Schlueter

Recently, Bethel University in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area held an interreligious symposium that was titled: Meditation-Buddhist and Christian: Is There Common Ground?

Pastor Bob DeWaay of Twin City Fellowship appeared on Crosstalk to discuss this symposium, a gathering that sought to explore how much common ground there is in both Christian and Buddhist meditation.

Just how dangerous is the belief that Christians can gain insight into themselves by practicing Buddhist approaches to meditation? Pastor DeWaay presents the Bible truths that speak directly to this issue on this edition of Crosstalk. To listen to this interview, click one of these links: (mp3), (Windows media). “More Proof – The East is Seducing the West”

On Saturday I had a spirited on-air discussion with a Bethel University professor who acted as spokesman for the college regarding its recent interfaith symposium. As I wrote last week, Buddhism was featured and there was a suggestion that there just might be "common ground" with Buddhism and Christianity when it comes to "meditation." Hear the program at this link.
